You can find it in the Announcements forum. It should say "Hamsterspeak#8 Online" and the article is "top 5 ohr games you've never played".

The battle thread is unfortunately, lost. Sad...

What kind of music do you compose? Anything you could give us a sampling of?

I think it's funny I remembered YOUR password but you couldn't. XP

I do hip hop with a bit of alternative...My myspace is myspace.com/whiteowlbundy...It suprised me I couldn't remember that when it was that obvious even in the game there was a boss namd Carmeelah I think...I just never used that name for a password except for this game...

I just read the article and it made me wanna cry...but I didn't...That battle pic looks far in the game cuz I see Dr Masa there...I never even got that far in the game myself...I'm sad I never took the time to learn the ps because I had a bunch of ideas but just never got them out...Even now I don't think I could sit down and learn on top of the fact I haven't drawn a picture in like 2 and a half years...

Yeah, but that doesn't mean you can't become a director or anything. Figure, you have a lot of respect in this community (you're the artist that predates Fenrir and the one that most OHRers looked up to back in the day), and FUABMX is still one of the most remembered and most appreciated games from the entire OHR library. If you have a vision that requires plotscripting, I'm sure any capable plotscripter with time on his or her hands would gladly jump at the chance to help you see your vision come to completion. All you would have to do is tell them what you want a scene to do and they can make it happen. You probably wouldn't even have to draw anything (though if you did, you might find that it comes back pretty quickly). This way, you could concentrate almost exclusively on music, and still see your vision of V4 come to life the way you'd imagine it if you learned plotscripting.

And if you really wanted a complete vision realized, it might be nice to know that the OHR does sound effects, transparent overhead layers, and various music types now (which you probably already know). I know what it's like to have old projects nagging you, and what it feels like to let the vision of what could've been swimming around without seeing it as reality. If the game still haunts you, see if anyone would be willing to do some plotscripting for you. See if anyone would want to add some sound effects or update the overhead tiles. Might give you a reason to lay the game down quietly and reach a point where you can finally clear your head of its progress (and restore its luster as one of the OHR's greatest hits).

In any case, whatever you decide, good luck with your music endeavors.

I feel what you're saying Pep but when I did all versions of Blue Moon I couldn't imagine working with more people...It would've took longer if more people were involved...I used to dedicate 10 hours out of the day and night to that game(v4)...I did want to have some plotscripting especially at the first battle with Augus I actually wanted the player to lose that battle but you had to win that fight because of my lack of PS knowledge...I can't even finish the game I don't even know where to begin...My cpu is only set up for doing music now so it's pretty much a wrap and I haven't drawn a picture in over 2 years...Another reason why the story probably felt like it wasn't tightly knot because it wasn't...I just came up with things as I went along...Maybe someone could do their own version of it and how they think it should've went...That would be cool...

This might just turn itself into a contest.

I second that, could be a sweet contest.

Okay, well there's nothing wrong with coming up with things as you go along: the best stories are unplanned. When you create a situation, the beauty of storytelling is to find out as the author (just as the player or reader would find out) how the character acts or responds to it. Plotted games are almost always contrived, and that's why a lot of RPGs fail as stories--there's nothing interesting about them because there's nothing real about the characters. They lay everything out ahead of time, and then they reveal too much too early, or the characters come off wooden, or things just jumble together and it no longer makes any sense.

I'll admit that I didn't spend a lot of time with FUABMX--'cause it was so freakin' hard--but I remember the characters being fleshed out better than those in most other games of its time, especially the V3 installment, which was the one I actually tried to get through, and I think the fact that you made things up as you went along proves its genuineness.

By the way, I'm not suggesting that you should pick up on this game again--if you can distance yourself from old projects, you're better off--but if you did, it's smarter of you to go in blind since you'll find the characters are more in the moment, and thus more interesting than the standard spikey-haired wannabes found in other games. And when you do see what a scene or story element needs, you could have someone plotscript it (maybe after you finish all the basic design). I know that's not your goal here, but I guess I'm trying to help you justify whatever decision you make.

Well, the next two Epic Marathons are already planned (they're on the calendar for Sept. 2008 if anyone's interested), so I probably wouldn't adopt this into that contest (unless everyone could hold out until EM7). But I would definitely be interested in seeing a "Plotscript FUABMX" contest if someone (like TwinHamster) were to host it. That might also appease White Owl's restlessness enough for him to quench his regret for not learning how to do it.

Not to mention, that might, quite honestly, be one of the most unique and entertaining contests to come around in a really long time. It could be the sort of thing that Magnus Sequel Marathon wanted to be. It would just need someone (like TwinHamster) to host it.

Herm...I was afraid of having this pushed on me...
But I guess it wouldn't be too bad to handle.

As of now, I am still horribly confused about what the Magnus contest was supposed to be.
At first, I assumed that it was just a bunch of remakes, but closer inspection revealed that they were individual chapters (Like the collaboration game!) that failed to reference back to previous chapters?

Anyhow, I guess I'll be okay with this.

I'm not too enthusiastic about this idea. A "make-someone-else's-game" contest?

The Magnus contest was supposed to generate a series of sequels. However, no one was allowed to know the plot of the other games, so they are very loosely connected.

You're right...Besides, no one could actually remake the whole game(I wouldn't expect them to)...Maybe if someone could make a chapter where they felt the storyline was missing something or how something should've been and last how the game could've ended...Bunch of different things to play off...But nothing that's 6-12 hours long(unless they have the time to do so)...

Or how about just a "Make your own version of FUABMX" contest? No reason to respect the source material. My entry would be Podo and Kain: Havana Nights, an enthralling tale of a forbidden love, for example. I could see someone pulling off a sidescroller.

I still like this contest idea as a whole. Whether the entries would be focused on remakes, sequels or spin-offs is beyond me at this point. Regardless, I think any way we did it would be fun.

I don't want this thread to die. When our current contests are over and done with, I think I might start developing structured ideas for this proposal.

It's been dead a year. When you're done with denial, we can move onto anger and then grief.
