I've released a demo version of DBZ: The Saiyan Prince.

Download here:
http://www.castleparadox.com/gamelist-display.php?game=884

This DBZ game follows the original plot of DBZ, however it tells the story from the view of Vegeta, and his allies. If you are unfamiliar with the DBZ series, the story is layed out within the game as faithful to the extent of my ability.

The play length of this demo is roughly 2-3 hours, though all testing and playing has only been done by myself so I can't say for sure on this.

Demo Features:
* Faithful and detailed rendition of the DBZ storyline.
* "Styles Menu" allowing some further character customization
* Mini-games, and side-quests
* DBZ landmarks such as: Kame House, Kami's Lookout Tower, Planet Frieza, Planet Vegeta, and others.

I chose to make a DBZ game because i've always liked to play other people's DBZ games and so decided to make my own! Maybe, if you aren't a fan of this series you won't enjoy a game like this such as a fan would, but I hope you have fun anyways.

Play it to enjoy it, but if you notice any bugs, or other issues with it, please let me know. I'd love to hear some feedback!

Enjoy Razz

There are already a million DBZ OHR games, but this one has the best screenshots than any of them, so I'll spend time playing this and telling you what I think.

I'll check this out. Reminds me of when I made DBZ Ultimate Battle Story so many years ago. :)

I have tried out the game, and here is what I think.

The storyline is as accurate as you claim, and the dialogue stays true to the characters pretty well. Even though your walk abouts don't boast the best details or even decent silhouettes, the characters are easily recognizable just by glancing at them.

The maptiles for the indoor areas in Planet Vegeta and Planet Frieza #14 are hard to look at, because the white floors blend in with everyone's armor. Try and find some contrast while keeping the general color scheme.

You have a good use of sound effects, and the plot scripted scenes work very well.

What I like most, is the styles system. That came out of nowhere, and from a DBZ game, no less. That kind of system would be extremely useful in other games that want to attempt having a class/job system, so it would be awesome if you shared some secrets in how you scripted that.

Now, here are some of the problems:

- You easily get lost in the indoor areas. There's no real direction in which you can find things other than what NPCs tell you. It would be nice if there were some kind of signs to help point to certain areas, and specific decorations for specific rooms to help differentiate between areas. I have spent a lot longer going from point A to B than I could have.

- The game is turning out to be a grind fest... And there is a good reason why I have to level up so much...

What the heck is that crap!? Is this a bug!? Vegeta is USELESS with almost no accuracy, not to mention never being able to use any spells because he has to level up just to obtain 0 MP.

Those stats on Vegeta's character are definitely a bug, and I would guess it has to do with the styles menu. Unfortunately, it has only been me playing this game so far so I figured there would be a few issues I wouldn't find, but can you remember if he started out like that, or was it after changing his fighting styles around and leveling up? I haven't been able to reproduce that bug yet but I did remove a script which I think would be the problem, and uploaded the new game file. Hopefully that'll work.

Thanks for the feedback!

Vegeta's stats are fine now, but not without having to replay through the entire story just to get them to be fine, so I am still fairly annoyed at this hurdle.

EDIT: The game is much more playable now. I'll play it more and see how everything works out naturally.

EDIT 2:

That thing gives 5000 EXP. That's totally not cool. >_>

I think the battles should be overall more fast paced. It's kind of weird to have a Dragonball game go slow. Also, I think you need more variety of music for the cutscenes to emphasize the intensity of certain parts, like where Freeza bombs the planet Vegeta.

Perhaps a run/dash feature to make things go faster? Currently though I haven't beaten the first boss yet so this might be invalid later on.

Yeah. Base the early game around 20-25 speed.

You should do what I am doing for my game, by setting the hero speed to 5 in the new game script and the load game script, that way you'll always be walking at 5 speed.

Even with the fairly slow pacing of everything, and though I haven't played past the first planet, I can easily say that this is the best DBZ OHR game I've ever seen. Good job; I may end up reviewing this once I complete it.

I liked the slower paced battles personally so I chose to make it that speed. There are abilities to increases speed later as well, and also certain fighting styles to increase your speed more. And of course, natural speed progression.

As for the movement speed of the character. Later in the game you can fly around on maps, and my plan is to either have flight at a faster speed by default, or as a reward through a quest.

And that test enemy is taken out of the game (i put him in there when trying to figure your initial problem) - thanks for noticing that and i'm sorry for these issues you've had newbie_power, and anyone else.

The beginning of the game is where you want to go fast by default, and it is not like it'll break gameplay to go one pixel faster as the normal walking speed, it would just make things much more convenient.

You must not have ever watched the show.

Big grin Oh, I see what you're talking about! I used to when I was little. I guess I'm saying this because I'm actually more oriented towards the manga, and that doesn't drag on forever in the way the show does.

But still, my point remains the same.

Wow, so true. Battles must last a minimum of 40 episodes to be considered epic.

Hey Waffle, there should also be a move Vegeta can do where he freaks out at how high Goku's power level has gotten even though he isn't a Sayain prince. And spirit bomb should take 3 episodes to cast.
