Vikings overhaul screenshots. You know you've been waiting for them. What's in store? More heroes, more areas, more OHRRPGCE references. YES

It would seem that Freki will be going commando this time around. Only one question remains then. Why is that a hat?

The caves get an overhaul. I can't say much more, other than it looks much more interesting now!

Famous cities in OHRRPGCE games... except for that last one, I'm not quite sure what kinds of seads they would have there?

Anybody who has watched the original Dragon Ball should know this (even the dub managed to keep that particular part of the show).

*laughs* Got to love Bob's randomness, though this screenshot makes me feel like a noob because I don't recognize any of those cities.

Or anyone who's played Chrono Trigger. Ozzie pants!

Bob's always random, which makes the scene so spiffy! Ixnekolan and Flanat are cities in Wandering Hamster. Cyport is a portside town in Sword of Jade. Cornelia is a city in Final Fantasy H. Agora is a farming community in Timestream Saga.

At some point I'm going to have to write a guide explaining every OHR reference in the game.

How about an in-game guide to all the references if you find and drink from Mimir's spring (the well of wisdom where Odin traded his eye for all-knowningness)

... or maybe you have to get his eye back...

... or maybe you have to steal his *other* eye and throw it in the spring >:)

Another update! Perhaps I should follow the style of Smash Bros Brawl? Very well!

This time, we'll be following one the game's signature mini-games, the block pushing puzzle!

Like the man says, sometimes you just can't win. Hm, I wonder what he means?

Well, that seemed easy enough! I wonder what all the fuss is about?

Hey! Give me back my money! I paid for the rights to that treasure, now give it to me!

But in actuality, the mini-game is generated entirely at random by choosing up to seven tags to turn on and off, to create several different block pushing puzzles! Most of these will be unsolvable of course, but there's a hidden catch - the prize changes depending on WHAT TIME OF DAY you decide to play it! You'll have to play around the clock to get everything!

That is pretty interesting. Its a shame there is no way to generate a puzzle that is always solveable-- but Sokoban is an NP-Hard problem, so it is understandable.

I think the pushable boxes ought to look different than the treasure chest lid

Some new enemies have come to challenge the Vikings of Midgard. The call themselves the Einherjar : the chosen warriors. The strongest of the bunch, the elite four have allied themselves with the DARK ONE, in exchange for power. This unholy pact has given them the ability to summon the very fiends that slew them in life. Clearly they're on the side of evil, but what are their motivations? And why do they all look so familiar?

This colorful ex-hero has donned a black cape to hide his garish colors. He wields a double-bladed sword with a pistol grip to let it swing back and forth. A seesaw gun-swallow? Nah, couldn't be.

This ex-hero has augmented his body with machinery to let him manipulate his environment. He's definitely not from our plane of existence.

A flying polyp perhaps? He's summoned by our geometrical foe above us here, so there's no telling what it could be.

A CHALLENGER APPROACHES!!

Freki has leaked us some preliminary information regarding one of the new heroes to join us in our quest! This foxy hero seems to be part mage, part fighter. He seems to be able to learn the very attacks the monsters crawling around the outlands seem to favor, by calling them forth into battle to use them. He's no summoner, for to build up his skills he'll have to do his own work in battle and see the attacks in action.

Yay!

So how are you implementing this blue-mage-esque feature? Can I make any engine changes that would make it easier? Sounds to me like an awkward thing to implement within the limits of the engine's current capabilities.

Not at all! Several of the recent hamsterspeak magazines have elaborated on a number of ways to implement "blue magic", namely the use of having attacks set tags in battle, then making elaborate use of after battle plotscripting to teach the Beastmaster new attacks. And now for further spoilers!

The triangular foe challenges one of our heroes! Will she be able to survive on her own?

It seems that even Freki will be stepping in to help out in this battle - but she seems to be having some trouble keeping up. You may need a new strategy to defeat this flying polyp.

What magical powers will Tilde's mask give us?

That enemy looks so amazing... As do the tree and the clouds in the background.

During the course of the game, your party will temporarily be split up, mostly to train up the second group so you'll have everyone ready to fight the *DARK ONE*. Also, because it adds an excuse to bring out some character development, and you'll learn some particularly dark secrets about some of your heroes.

This line gets repeated a LOT. Whenever one of the "Einherjar" says this line, they'll be summoning one of the powerful monsters that led them to their demise! This means we'll be seeing some of the classic bosses from OHRRPGCE games, rendered in a style fitting Vikings of Midgard! Also notice Alfheim's new darker palette. I like this one more, makes it seem more like an enchanted forest. On fire. But we can't be too picky, can we?

The confrontation with the Triangular Einherjar at last. Notice the attack command has an elemental symbol next to it? Does this mean you'll now have an indication if a weapon has an elemental attack to it? Possibly, but in some cases it'll be better to have a non-elemental weapon equipped, in case your foes block some kinds of damage!

It also seems that there are now even rendered scenes in some parts of the game, mostly in story sequences. Alfheim in particular has a LOT of these - it's the turning point of the game where the relations between your various foes are uncovered, and it helps to remind the player who's who at this point.

But wait! What about graphical bugs that occurred earlier in the game, such as the fight against Dagon? Well we're fixing that too!

Vigor? I vaguely remember that statistic from the game's first iteration, but it didn't do anything. Now, it seems to have a very important function....

T.. the cat of Utgard!
