|
|
I encountered some strange problems when trying to position weapon and attack sprites and was wondering if I'm doing something wrong or if it's a bug in the OHRRPGCE.
First of all some info:
- all my sprites are slightly smaller than the maximum possible
- my hero sprites are positioned them in the middle of each tile (~5 pixels free on each side)
- my first weapon sprite goes this direction: / and my second weapon sprite has this direction: \
- the first weapon sprite has the handle lower-left and the second weapon sprite has the handle lower-right
- my attack sprites are mostly centered (depending on animation)
- my monster sprites are centered
- I used the Caps Lock + Arrow Keys feature alot to position the sprites correctly or to duplicate certain parts of the sprite
Now the problems I encountered:
Weapons:
- when I set the hand coordinates of the heroes and the handle coordinates of the weapon as displayed, the weapon sprites display at a totally from position, more than 20 pixels off!
- I can manually adjust the first weapon sprite position by setting the hand coordinates way off (like -20,-7), but the second weapon sprite position doesn't seem to be affected
- the handle coordinates are upside down, for example if I move the handle 5 pixels to the right it will actually display 5 more pixels to the left ingame, if I move it 2 up it displays 2 more down, etc.
- the second weapon position seems to be only dependant on the weapon handle coordinates and the first weapon position seems to only dependant on the hand coordinates
- there's no way to set the hand position for Attack B hero sprite (why even force the player to set the coordinates for each weapon when you just could set the hand position?)
- when I added the description of a weapon the handle coordinates of ALL my weapons got reset to 0 for some unknown reason
Attacks:
- they don't really seem to land where they are supposed to be, for example I have an Icicle attack with Icicles falling down from above (Drop) and when I attack a small-sized mob with it, they land like 20 pixels right of the monster
- I moved Attack B of the hero two pixels to the left with the Caps Lock + Arrow Keys feature (so it looks like he takes a step to the front when attacking), however ingame that didn't seem to have any effect at all, except that it totally messed up all weapon positions again
So, am I doing it wrong? Can someone give me some advice how to do it right? |

I tried to reproduce the problems you are having, but so far I haven't been able to. I'll keep looking into it. What version number are you using?
Also, to set hand position for frame B, you have to press ">" in the hero appearance editor. The < and > keys (period and comma) switch which frame you are working with.... i think that is an awkward interface, and it will change in the future. |

Hm maybe I should just send you my game file, so you can check there.
I'm using the latest official release (Voxhumana 20080121).
Oh another problem I forgot to mention is that the weapon sprite of the hero in the front actually hides behind the hero in the back. :-/
Also I experience weird lag something when playing the game, but that's probably not related. ^^'
Care to tell me where the > and < keys are on an American keyboard? ^^'
OHRRPGCE still doesn't detect the keyboard type. |

You actually use the , and . buttons, no need to use < and >. (On an American keyboard, they share the same buttons.) _________________

The right hand left hand thingy did the trick.
However two problems remain:
- drop attacks falling too far right
- weapon of hero in front displays behind hero in the back |
