The generally held belief, even among Comic Artists and Animators, that to really get a handle on messed-up, cartoon anatomy, you need to have a really good understanding of REAL anatomy first. In practice I can say this is pretty much the truth of it. You can tell the difference between a cartoonist who knows anatomy and one who doesn't.
