I am messing around with a few new ability ideas and was wondering if an attack is possible that either causes the hero to receive the damage of an ally or one that "taunts" the enemy into attacking a particular hero?

If you only wanted it for one battle, you could do it with tags, I think, but it would still be a mess.

I figured that might be the case. Would be a cool attack feature to add at some point I suppose.

EDIT: Actually, I think i've figured out a way to mimic a taunting ability, and will get back with details if it works.

Eh, for the taunting thing, you could try playing with the new features in the target settings: "Prefer target:" and "Weak/Strong stat" with a dummy stat, such as counter.

You could start everyone in the party with equal counter values, and then damage/heal counter so that it matched the enemy's attack preference.

I've no idea how you would get around to a Cover ability though.

The whole taunting concept was the basis for the battle system I've been working on. Damn.

Vikings of Midgard has similar attacks.

Cover is used by the Warrior as his default set. The initial attack is a target-ally skill that raises their defense by a preset amount (usually the Warrior's defense). It chains to a second attack that sets the warrior's Defense rating back to 0.
As far as actually taking another character's damage FOR them, I don't think there's a way to do that yet. We'll probably get that after we get "Reflect" and "Blink", but before we get pre-battle character surprise animations (think FFVI).

Taunt/Provoke is used by the Beastmaster (who still isn't working right) as his default free skill as well. It hits an enemy for mediocre damage with a reserved elemental bitset. Every enemy when hit with that "provoke" element will spawn an enemy with 1 HP and 999 speed that has a single attack - namely a message saying what spell the enemy has available to learn, and sets a tag on - then kills the summoned invisible creature. After battle, the game checks to see if some tags are on, and promptly teaches the character the "learned" spell.
There's a few other possible uses. Making enemies drop rare items, recovery functions, etc., but the basic principle's the same.
