After talking with several people who downloaded Vikings through Xocolotl+, I have been receiving numerous complaints that there is extremely soft or nonexistant music. It was only after installing timidity did this issue go away. As a side not, I distribute Vikings with gfx-fb/music-sdl, and my hunch is that the sdl music backend all but requires having timidity on your computer. If I can have someone else check this, that would be spiffy. |

No, SDL_mixer does not use timidity by default under Windows. But if you install the sound patches for timidity, then it will be used, bypassing the system volume setting for the MIDI synthesiser.
In conclusion, tell your users to adjust their "SW Synth" volume sliders.
Someone complained once that he couldn't play MIDI on his computer because his Windows installation was damaged. Using Timidity works around this. _________________ "It is so great it is insanely great." |

TMC is right. Most people use MIDI music so rarely that they don't realize it has its own separate volume slider. |

Even I didn't figure this out, and I've used Windows for a long time.
Then again, I dreamed I was a moron. _________________

I had a friend whose midi would play loud, but the ogg sound would play SUPER soft. I eventually got suspicious when amplifying my ogg files itself didn't help, so I checked his volume control and sure enough - his wav section thingamabob was way down. _________________ http://www.castleparadox.com/gamelist-display.php?game=750 Bloodlust Demo 1.00
