I haven't been around here in ages, and I don't know what the new box slicing tool thing is, where you can cut and mess with different box sizes and sprites. I don't know what it is for, nor have I figured out how to use it. Could somebody please explain this for me? _________________ http://www.castleparadox.com/gamelist-display.php?game=750 Bloodlust Demo 1.00

From what i gather (based on looking through James' space invader demo), it's a fancy way of placing images (currently only sprites) that can be doubled as collision detection.
Of course, it's still not complete, so probably best to wait for a stable release.
And judging by this, I'm hoping it can be used for panoramic maps and such |

It's a feature that is used with plot scripting.
To put it simply, you no longer have to use NPCs to act as sprites (and you can use different sizes that are made in CUSTOM). You can also use it for rectangular objects say if you're making a HUD or something. _________________

I haven't tried it yet, but, according to the current wip dictionary, it also looks as if you can place rectangles with any of the 15 styles anywhere on the screen. Custom textboxes, anyone?
The editor in custom doesn't work yet, but you can already do a lot with plotscripting commands. _________________ Calehay |

Slicing tool thing? You mean the editor in Custom? It's not finished, the 'slice collections' you edit can't be used ingame yet.
Slices are still very incomplete, and probably a bit buggy, but I think the existing commands are stable.

Yes, but I'd rather that parallax and that sort of thing be supported directly in the map settings without scripting.

You can either use one of the 15 textbox styles, or set the foreground (for the rectangular border) and background colours (for the body) to any colour and use the border from any style. _________________ "It is so great it is insanely great." |

it does not work in the sense that you cannot actually use anything you create with it in your game, but it is quite functional for playing with slices, and experimenting with the many ways they can be connected, grouped, and manipulated.
One thing it will be used for is to create a collection of slices that you will be able to load directly with a plotscript.
Later on, it will also be used to customize certain menus that are currently not customizable. For example, say, the layout of a shop, or the "equip" menu.
But I am not sure if either of those functionalities will be ready in time for the next stable release. I might disable the editor temporarily for the stable release if it will be useless to leave it enabled.
Although I do really encourage people to try it out in the nightlies. I would like people to search for bugs, and to provide feedback about how it works. |
