This is a sketch I did a while ago. It took about 2 hours. It was for a friend who built a flash animation advertising his new game concept: Cosmic Gem. It's a space sci-fi/fantasy, and the style is very Zelda-esque. That means its must be EPIC (echo) (echo)! So I tried to keep with that feel.
Also incorporated one style from Halo. I was playing it a few days before getting this ad, and I really enjoyed a style they used at the very beginning when you see the halo ring, then the Autumn. The music began as a deep base, followed by a moment of silence, followed by soft strings in the middle to upper registers. It gives the sense of drifting forever. That is the style that this ad opens with.
I was pleased to hear he accepted all three themes for use in his game, though that was coupled with the disappointment that he didn't like the music rendition. (In later talk, he revealed it's because he said it sounds like it came off a super Nintendo. I prefer Nintendo 64. ) Ah well... can't blame him for wanting a real orchestra to play the music.
You can get it from http://www.crazyleafgames.com/OutSourced/CosmicGem.mp3. |

Hey man. I really like your orchestration here. It's too bad your friend is a dick with the sound. Maybe try getting some cool free shit from hammersounds? That should definitely help with the snes/GM sound. |
