I'm coming up with all kinds of crazy enemy ideas for SHiIDA, and as I want the battles to be interesting, I'm trying to do lots of complicated things.
One enemy idea is this killer moth. It's made of three enemies, one body and two pairs of wings.
I want to give the body a superpowered attack that only works when all 3 parts are alive. Does anyone have any idea how I can make this happen?
It's not totally necessary, I guess. I've got a few other gimmicks behind this moth. The wings act independently to use status-inducing or stat-lowering attacks, while the body attacks with normal melee attacks. Furthermore, when the body is alone, it'll kill itself and spawn a second form that has pathetic defenses, but a new light-based attack. |

Eheh.
You could do something like ... the superpowered attack requires 30 MP, and every turn it receives 15 MP from both of its wings.
Do enemies miss a turn if they don't have enough MP?
I'm not sure.
Anyways, the moth can have 3 attacks. One requiring all of its MP, one requiring half, and one requiring none.
You could also try something more convoluted ... like - the body receives MP from one wing, which requires MP from the other wing.
How do the wings supply only their specific targets? Well, they can't as far as I know .... although you could make them do spread attacks on themselves, and set the elemental bitsets so as to be effective only on certain body parts.
The first version is probably better. _________________ Working on rain and cloud formation |

You can also set the wings up with an on-death attack that saps the body's MP.
(edit) by which I mean they spawn an invisible enemy on death _________________

Aha, that's a good idea. I'm going with Moogle on this one.
Where would we be without Spawning? I've been using it to pull off dozens of cool tricks. I hope the plan for Counterattacks is just as useful. |

Hey - that's a good idea, you wouldn't even need to only sap MP, you could sap attack or whatever.
Although MP would control which attacks the Moth will use. _________________ Working on rain and cloud formation |

Wouldn't the easier method to just to make the when alone attack set identical to the normal one, but without the super attack in the set? You could use the wings as a means for it to get MP to fire it in the first place, but if the attack doesn't exsist in the when alone attack set, you won't need to use any fancy tricks anyway. |

That's so much simpler, I could cry. _________________ Working on rain and cloud formation |

But then it can still use the special attack with only one wing. _________________ Snippy:

*ahem* Thats a very good point...I didn't think of that :S, okay, wouldn't it just as easy (while using a trick here) to have the wings cast mute (well summon an on death foe that casts mute and dies :p), and make the special attack mutable? Provided that there isn't a mute spell in the game that the player can use/at that point.
That would work better than the other method, and combine with the other idea (removing the attack from the alone attack set), if by some slight chance that it gets un-muted, then it won't be-able to use the attck anymore anyway. |

Excellent! I never planned to give the heroine any muting spells anyway. This opens up even more possibilities!
You guys are just great. |
