So guys! I am sure lots of you have heard of this, but a new digital distribution service called Desura went live a few days ago. It's like Steam, except also indie and awesome. Here's their blurb:
Desura is a community driven digital distribution service for gamers, putting the best games, mods and downloadable content from developers at gamers fingertips, ready to buy and play.
The FIRST (okay, SECOND) thing that occurred to me is that, hey, this would be an awesome way to get OHRRPGCE games the publicity they deserve. Not only is most everything community driven, it's all stored in one giant catalog, and it makes it very easy for people to find, download and play games right from the Desura program. They can also review games and do all sorts of neat stuff.
In case it's not clear, the games submitted can be free; they don't have to have a price attached.
I've added OHR to the list of engines, although it admittedly needs work to not look so ugly on the site. I've also added a group but it's yet to be approved. The engine only took a few hours, though, so it probably will be very soon.
Here's where I need help: Submit your games to Desura! It looks pretty easy, although I don't have any finished games that I can test it out with. Once they're added in and approved, people can find them in the catalog, download them and play them!
If you don't feel comfortable submitting your games or don't have anything to submit, you should definitely join the group and show some support for Desura in any case, as it looks to be an awesome platform.
This is the first time I've organized anything like this, so if you have any suggestions or want to help out, please let me know! In any case, I think this is a huge opportunity to get in early on something that has the potential to be huge. |
