I just created another map for my game. actualy a new "intro" map as i wanted to change how the game started. Previously the main character started on map 0 "world map". Now I used map 14 to create a small world before the game really starts.

Anyways, I made it as map 15 originaly and it became sort of corrupted, to I "erased all map data" and made it on map 14. The issue happenned again.

Basically the NPCs, doors and Walls end up one tile higher then the actual tilemap. This is only happening on that new map as i tested the game past that and everything seems normal.

I do have a backup on my laptop if its something permanently "screwed", though that backup might be a little too old that I'd rather not have to go back to.

What version of the OHRRPGCE are you using?

Can you send me a copy of your corrupted RPG file so I can check out the problems on map 14? Bob@HamsterRepublic.com

I have a couple questions.

* Could you also send me your c_debug.txt and c_debug_archive.txt files, if they exist? They might have error messages left over from whatever caused the corruption

* I see 101 maps. Did you actually create all those blank maps, or did they appear when the corruption happened?

* When EXACTLY did the corruption start? When you created map 15? When you started working on map 15?

* Can you describe the corruption in more detail, especially how it appeared when you first noticed it.

* Is map 9 supposed to be blank?

* Map 13 and maps 15 and up crash when I try to load them, what happens for you on those maps?

The only part of the map 14 data that actually seems to be corrupt is the harm tile damage and the foot offset in the General Map Data menu. The foot offset is what makes the doors and walls seem to be misaligned.

hehe
foot offset... i dont know why it was at 20. I never used that feature before... odd. But anyways, that did fix my issue as there was no corruption I guess

1) I first made this game with a much older version... nearly 5 or 6 years ago maybe more and at the time the first 100 maps (0 to 99) were already created or so I think. I just added 101 not so long ago. I am planning on using them all and much more. (I created this game 5+ years ago, but never really did much with it untill now. The past month I've actual started to seriously build something.)

2 and 3) Well it looks like there never was a corruption.

4) map 9 was always blank, but spoken for. Have a draft on paper.

5) really? odd Mine does not crash nor ever did. both 13 and 15 are blank atm.

PS: there is a lot of blank graphics boxes because i imported graphics from other games as placeholders in the past. Now I've erased most of those and created my own.

Do you have an older copy of the game that I could test with? The corruption might have happened in the upgrade code from the very old data to the latest format.

There was *definitely* corruption. It looks like all the corruption happened in the "General Map Data" menu for maps >= 13

Interesting.

Oh no i dont have the old file from before i got the newer version. Even my backup on my laptop is very resent

actualy, the more I think about it, the more I think I might just start it again on a new file. The attempt to salvage whatever I did 5 or more years ago was probably not a good idea and it still early enough that it wont take me that long to redo what I have done so far.

I agree with the corruption thing. I just looked and every map past 13 (15, 16 and so on) have a foot offset and odd -#### for harmtiles and other things. Values which i never entered myself.

I've also massively improved in doing pixel art in the past month and kind of want to redo a lot of the earlier graphics I made, It might just be good that this happen because I might of been too lazy to restart otherwise.

Anyways, thanks a bunch, very apreciated Happy

I do plan on trying to have this completed early 2013 (hopefully). Trying to make a game like the Final Fantasy series but with features found in newer games; like small % of very rare loot (diablo style) with hundreds of magical and rare items. (trying to see if i can create some sort of set item as well). And; Tons of side quests and random places to explore, to bring up a less linear feel.

The story line itself and the races/monsters/locations/etc are from a paper and pen RPG and a fantasy novel I've been working on for over a decade.

If you want to keep working on your old game, it will be safe to fix the corruption by blanking out all the strange values in the Edit General Game Data menu.

But if you want to start over instead, that is cool too.

Do you remember the version number of the old version that you worked on your game with?

oh god I thought it was 5 or 6 years ago, but looking down the list in the "news" section of the main website, I just realised it has been much longer then that. Might of been in 2002 or 2003. But I updated OHR a few times since then. probly once every 2 or 3 years. (whenever i'd pick it up again for a couple weeks). I dont remember when I created that game file nor was it the first one I created. When I first got OHR i made a game just for my own personnal use that was never completed and also got lost. (From switching, updating, etc, computers over the years).

This is the first time I've actualy decided to build a full game for others to play and so the first time I've taking the time to learn how to do pixel art. (Before I Never had time to really work on it. Too many other projects, etc.) And yeah, I think it would be better for me to start new.

Still thank you much for your help though.

Once my game is at least 25% done I'll build a website for it and get into more details.

If you do ever happen to find an old copy of the game from before the corruption, I would like to see a copy of it, to see if I could reproduce the corruption.

I might on a backup cd somewhere. I'll let you know and email it to you if I find one.

I'm pretty sure it happenned during updating. In fact, creating a new file made me realise this. The corrupt game was running on an OHR that had the version name in 'red' at the bottom of the screen, the master palette was the old version, and the backround on the monster's graphic was red instead of grey. Making a new game I just notice how its suppose to be.
