After much delay, the beelzebufo release is finally ready for download! Bask your self in the warm glow of an optional Turn-Based battle mode, more customizable hero attack menus, some nifty map editor improvements such as the ability to mark and clone sections of tilemap, and an assortment of other bugfixes and new features. See whatsnew.txt for the complete skinny.
If you have been testing nightlies, you will have already seen what is new, but here are a few screenshots:

Yay! Safe to push out game updates again!

Surprised these were still relatively low |

Opps. That reminds me that we never fixed/silenced the 15999 tags g_debug.txt warning that's printed every time you load a game. (It's nothing to be concerned about, it's just spam.)
We put off raising the tag limit until someone was actually close to using them all up. _________________ "It is so great it is insanely great." |

Yes, all releases are backwards compatible with all previous releases (or at least they try to be; if you try switching to a version that's 10 years newer you will run into a couple problems) _________________ "It is so great it is insanely great." |

Quote: | * Goodbye 4-bit BMPs! You can now import sprites, backdrops and
tilesets from BMP files saved at (almost) any bitdepth (but
sprites are still limited to 16 colors), and most common versions
of the BMP file format are now supported. Greatly improved the
sprite importer's handling of palettes and previewing. [Ralph] |

I want to kiss his cheek.
Also, I noticed that the test game feature lags now and it didn't before. That's the only bug I've come across so far. _________________ "There will always be people who will tell you they hate what you made, or like what you made, and will tell you that what you did was wrong or right."

Heh.
Lag? Could you be more specific? And you are using Windows, I assume? _________________ "It is so great it is insanely great." |

Yes, windows XP.
Well, it slows down at times and delays when I try to attack a mob, or move/use an item. _________________ "There will always be people who will tell you they hate what you made, or like what you made, and will tell you that what you did was wrong or right."

Strange, I haven't noticed anything. Do you have quite an old computer? regardless, the only interesting thing that happens when you swap items in the inventory is that a sound effect might be played. Maybe the game(s) you notice this in large sound effects? Or do you notice lots of output in g_debug.txt?
If you press Ctrl and ~ the framerate will be displayed. Normally it's 18.2 but will drop if there's a delay. _________________ "It is so great it is insanely great." |

It probably is. I haven't been able to afford to have it rebuilt yet and I don't remember when it was last upgraded.
Ctrl and ~ eh? I'll have to try that and post the results! _________________ "There will always be people who will tell you they hate what you made, or like what you made, and will tell you that what you did was wrong or right."

Will the walkabouts one day be able to handle more than 16 bit as well?
