Couldn't find an intro thread, so I guess I'll make one here. Just started on OHRRPGCE. Besides a few minor glitches, I'm really enjoying it.
Still trying to find my voice as a creator, whether that's text-adventures, JRPGS, turn-based platformers (platformers with a front view turn based battle system mechanic), or visual novels.
Look forward to getting to know people. _________________ Arcade Day -- Complete -- Ruby

Welcome!
So you've decided to just try making lots of different types of games at once and see what most interests you? I think lots of people actually jump between different genres constantly, coming up with ideas and making the sort of game that's most suitable for that idea. Other people are very much married for life to a particular type of game, like RPGs.
We're happy to help and answer questions (but they might get answered a little slowly if you ask them over here).
A lot of new users end up on these forums (and I really don't know why!) But the community has mostly migrated to www.slimesalad.com and there aren't very many people who come here anymore, and even those might only check the site every few days or weeks! Both CP and SS welcome people using tools other than the OHRRPGCE, bu they're both composed 95% of OHR users. Finally, another good place to find people who don't post on the forums much is the #slimesalad IRC channel at irc.esper.net. _________________ "It is so great it is insanely great." |

The real difficulty comes when you have to decide between making what you are good at and making what you enjoy making. _________________ Snippy:

Good at making:
* Sprites
* Expressive character faces
* Flavor text
* Burgers
Enjoy making:
* RPG battle system/spell list ideas (too many mutually exclusive setups and not enough game ideas to implement them all)
* Platformer levels
* Crude, simplistic nude art of the sort of characters I already enjoy looking at
* Burgers
I get paid to make one thing from each of these lists, but unlike the others cannot dictate my schedule (and in fact barely influence it). _________________ "I didn't start the flame war;

My favorite is a Jr. Cheeseburger with extra pickles and adding a sausage patty to it instead of bacon.
My favorites to make are when people order it plain, with only one or two condiments, or don't ask for anything special about it at all. Or no tomato/no pickles because having to count exactly two or four slices respectively when putting them on the sandwich is actually one of the most time-consuming parts of putting it together.
The worst ones to make are those where someone asks for no this, extra that / "only" everything that comes on it or "only" all but one thing that comes on it / "no" everything or "no" everything but one item / some weird combination of items that are not usually a topping for that sandwich and thus marked SEE ME on the screen, forcing me to talk to another human being to know what to do (like my aforesaid sausage patty). _________________ "I didn't start the flame war;

This is the first I hear of sausage patties.
I only make sandwiches... but to me, the only difference between a burger and a sandwich is that burgers have circular buns. _________________ "It is so great it is insanely great." |

Actually the only difference is that for it to be a burger it needs a round meat patty (or vegetable patty if distinctly labled "veggie burger" or "garden burger") as one of the things between the slices of bread. You can also get a burger on Texas toast or whatever other bread a given restaurant has. Round bread just fits more nicely with round meat. _________________ "I didn't start the flame war;

Really? I thought that I'd seen burgers with square meat patties advertised. So you're saying these are technically not burgers, but low grade imposters, probably cut from a large sheet of processed meat-substitute. Fascinating... _________________ "It is so great it is insanely great." |

There definitely are burgers with square patties, sometimes on round buns. Wendy's does it that way and I think White Castle might (never eaten at one). Round patty with round bun is still the norm, and usually they're supposed to be close to the same diameter.
For square patties it's square bread (toasted or otherwise) that would make more sense than a round bun. Not that sense matters a lot when it comes to food construction. _________________ "I didn't start the flame war;
