|
|
One of the things I've noticed in the community lately is our tendency to want to focus on our own games and essentially ignore what other folks have produced. Working on games is all well and good, but I feel like that's only one part of a vibrant game-making community.
I'd like to see a little more discussion on the good games we currently have available. Doing so would provide constructive cristicism for the author, as well as an opportunity for the community as a whole to examine what works and what doesn't in a game and provide fodder for ideas. Not only that, but I think it would give incentive for people to release more games if there's a chance there will be a lengthy discussion on it (as opposed to now, where the most you can hope for is begging a couple of reviews out of people).
So, I'd like to propose an OHR "book" club. Specifically, we would propose a game every 2-4 (or however long) weeks, play through it, analyze it, and then talk about it. I think we'd learn a lot, and at the very least, it'd liven things up around here.
For the first game, I'd like to propose Sword of Jade. I think that's a game everyone can agree is fun to play, and has plenty of stuff in it to talk about. (Also, I'm shocked at, for the most anticipated OHR game ever, how little it's actually TALKED about).
Anyone interested? |

I was incredibly interested right up until you mentioned SoJ. It's still a good idea, but maybe pick something less hated for the first "book." _________________ My art (and random photos)! |

If Sword of Jade goes through as the first, could I make my Eight Granasties game the next OHR Book Club selection? I've had plenty of downloads since the final version was released, but I've hardly gotten the critique or reviews I would've liked to. _________________ http://www.castleparadox.com/gamelist-display.php?game=750 Bloodlust Demo 1.00

I like the concept, and would also participate if SoJ was not the first, or ever a game on the list. If I wanted to have Charbile and Rinku smack me around the face with their crazy philosophy, I could go to LJ or IRC. |

It matters how long we have. I've been having a bit of trouble beating Sword of Jade.
It's a nice concept. However, it has to be very organized or else it will become a mess. I'm assuming you're ready for that since you suggested it. I'd be interested in participating. _________________ Calehay |

Very true.
I suggest threads in the journals of the games being discussed. That would require the author of the game to open one for you, I suppose. A good place to start "participation". _________________ "It is so great it is insanely great." |

Well, I'd be happy to choose a game other than SoJ, although just because you don't like it doesn't mean it would be a bad one to talk about. I'm playing through it right now, and I like the gameplay a lot, but the philosophy drives me crazy, so I thought that would be fertile ground for discussion.
Anyway, I'm open to other suggestions. |

I think Sword of Jade would be a good place to start, regardless of whether or not people like it.
Failing that, we could just play ten of Gizmog's games and compare and contrast. |

Actually, the game journals work slightly differently. The author is still in control as a moderator, and can enable/disable posting as they see fit, but the default allows for anyone to make a new thread in a game journal. You have to be viewing the game journal at the time you click "new topic" though. The link to the gamejournal can be found on the gamelist (not in the gamelist-display page yet).

I think it would be good to do SoJ as it seems to be a game which opinion is very divided on. That would lead to more interesting discussion. |

As opposed to, say, OHR date which would have unanimously positive remarks. _________________ "Everyone has 200,000 bad drawings in them, the sooner you get them out the better."
