A lot of our troups are over in Iraq right now, including troops that were set up in case of a natural disaster.

NO had the last 200 years to prepare for a diaster like this, but clearly it is Bush's fault. If you need someone to blame, blame the French! They setup their settlement below sealevel!!! :x |
Err.. You do realise that the current government - you know, the Bush administration - chose, conciously, to cut funding from measures that could have prevented, or at least lessened the disaster unfolding today? |
bzzt! wrong! Even if the levies had been still strengthened fully, they were only rated for a Category 3 storm. The levies actually did their job - they held the water back as long as they could. That is the entire purpose of levies; flood control, not flood prevention. If they had failed completely, the ENTIRE city would be underwater right now, not just 80%.
I don't know what I find sadder - the fact that looters have raided nursing homes, or the fact that people are already fucking trying to blame the Bush administration for a god-damn hurricane. |

Or the fact that the survivors are being called "refugees". _________________ A broken clock is still right twice a day. |

Oh no, that's awful! It probably has nothing to do with the fact that they're taking refuge from the storm, does it? _________________

Really, they should be called survivors rather than refugees, when I think "refugee" I think "someone coming from a country where they're oppressed". But then again...in both situations they've pretty much lost everything they know, so eh. Whatever floats your boat I guess. _________________ Current Projects:

That's a political refugee, or perhaps more appropriately, asylee. That it's used more often in that context doesn't change that the word's original meaning was in this context. _________________

Asylee? I've only heard "asylum seeker" before, but guess it's a different term in the US . Anyway, I was just saying what I thought. That's all. _________________ Current Projects:

I don't blame anyone for this incident. It could have happened to ANYONE. The fact that Bush and his collegues had us a bit unprepared is true. Also true is that Iraq is on the verge of becoming a democracy and an ally thanks to Bush's intervention.
Oh, and by the way... While we were concentrating on Katrina, about 1,000,000,000 Mexican refugees crossed our borders unhinderred. Does anyone mind a few extra neighbors out there? I got a few here looking for a place to stay... : :
Also, Send the refugees from New Orleans and aroun that area to some place open... Like Wyoming or Montana. NOT TO NEWYORK, Huston, or any Bull shit like that. THINK a little further above sea level and bit bigger, people. That's my thoughts, guys. _________________ Planning Project Blood Summons, an MMORPG which will incinerate all of the others with it's sheer brilliance...

I don't see what Bush has to do with any of this. The fact is that New Orleans had advance warning and plans for evacuation which the local government failed to execute. The federal government should not be and is not in charge of protecting cities from natural disaster (though it is the most effective means of relief, but that's entirely different). _________________

1,000,000,000, Leroy? Isn't that like 1/6 of the world's population?
Edit: Oops. Hyperbole it is. Maybe I should have read PHC's post before I posted, bah. _________________ Current Projects:

Some of the survivors have been sent here to Omaha.
Most of them are planning on staying.
Interesting how a storm can change history like that. |

There are two new employees where I work that lived in New Orleans. I don't know what their plans are, but I admire them for finding a new life so quickly. _________________
