Please list your favorite games here. You may also give a brief description about why you like it, and what sort of genre it falls under. I just want to get a general idea of what sort of games the community here favors.

Here are mine -

Ace Attorney Series - I haven't been so crazy about a particular series of video games ever, except for this one. I'm already hoping that the next installment comes out sometime this year (preferably before the end of summer).

Castlevania - Aria/Dawn of Sorrow - A great mix between platformer and RPG. I've replayed it several times too and enjoy getting 100% everything.

Zeliard - Props to anyone who has heard of and played this game. I like some of the music in the caverns a lot, and even have gone out of my way to record them from my speaker to listen to as MP3s.

Full Throttle - Fun adventure game from LucasArts. Too bad its sequel never came out. :/

Loom - Another game from LucasArts. The concept of using mini songs or 'drafts' to progress your way through and being able to reverse em as well was a fun and creative idea.

Heroes of Might and Magic II Gold - The whole expansion pack and all for the second installment. I like the second of the series in particular.

Advance Wars - Days of Ruin - I like they finally got a good story going, and that the gameplay feels very balanced out. Some cool songs as well.

Silent Hill 2 - Great atmosphere and story, I really liked playing this one in the complete darkness. Happy

Descent 1 & 2 - Used to play this one back when I was just a little brat. I still find it awesome, and I haven't completed 3 yet, so I can't say for sure whether it would go down as a favorite as well.

Descent Freespace - My first and only space flight sim, and I like it lots. I have yet to play Freespace 2, but hope to get around to it some year.

Lord of the Rings vol 1 and 2 (Interplay) - These are the old RPGs that came out long before the games for the movies ever have. This is what actually got me into reading the books, right before the LoTR craze started amongst other youth due to the movies.

Fire Emblem 7 and 8 This would be the American releases for the GBA. I like the story and the fact that it autosaves at every turn for convenience. Happy

Pokemon Puzzle League I used to be really good at this, but now I haven't played it in so long that I've lost my touch. The 3D mode was always fun because of the long, long chains you could make.

Super Smash Bros The original is where I tear people apart as Jigglypuff. Happy

I hope to someday put out a video on Youtube of me kicking butt.

Xena Warrior Princess - The Talisman of Fate This is a fighting game for the N64. I liked its battle engine and I always had a lot of fun playing this one.

I've played Zeliard. It's pretty average, but I remember the music being cool too.

Fire Emblem: Monshou no Nazo - I love this game. It is both a remake and sequel to Fire Emblem 1, resulting in about 42 or so chapters of game play. While challenging, the game isn't so difficult that you will throw your SNES against the wall. You just need to have your units work together since tanking doesn't work as well. As long as you set the animation to "real" or "off" (which is still animated, for walkabouts battling each other which actually looks real nice), the game can be fun. I imported this from eBay for $20, but for those not against emulation, it isn't hard to find the ROM (and there is even a patch to make the game have some English in it.) Oh, and Marth is the main character.

Zelda II: The Adventure of Link - Screw the naysayers.

DOOM/DOOM II - Mindless action... MINDLESS, FAST PACED ACTION and excellent level design. I am spoiled by DOOM.

Metal Gear Solid 2 - Screw the naysayers. MGS2 is incredibly fun, and surprisingly deep with many tricks you can do. I am also one of the few people that loved the story, being someone that has interest in Information Technology.

Streets of Rage 2 - Screw all this 3D stuff, this is the game which truly acheived perfection. Viva la Sega!

My Sims - I'm a creator by nature, and there's something about being able to build the entire game world from the ground up that just tethers me.

Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion - 200+ hours on a single character can't be wrong.

Star Wars: Battlefront - There's something inexplicably fun about this game. The massive battles, huge arsenal, and the kill 'em all or steal their base thing makes this the one game I've put in more times than -

Perfect Dark - As I said before, One hit kills and 8 Meat sims will have me blow off steam for hours on end.

WWF Wrestlemania: The Arcade Game - What?

World of Warcraft - I think since me and my girlfriend spend about one fourth our lives playing it, it should go on the list by default.

portal - funny + physics = fun!!!

kingdom hearts series - great storyline and gameplay, also i liked seeing some of the disney characters in it.

super mario rpg - one of my favorite rpgs of all time, soooo many miniquests!

super mario 64 - seriously guys, do i need to explain why?

Viewtiful Joe The game is hard. And challenging. The visuals are bright and distinct enough not to hurt my eyes.

Astyanax The game is hard and challenging.

Dragon Warrior 3 The game is challenging, and hard. The Game Boy version of this game has a fursuit in it(I don't know about the NES version, I never got that far in it).

Sonic the Hedgehog (1-3, Sonic & Knuckles, and Sonic CD). Not very hard, but has very good graphics and sound. Good for a quick release of stress.

Mega Man 1-6 With the exception of six, all these games were difficult. The real challenge lies in deciding which order to take the robot masters out in.

Stinkoman 20X6 Are you enquiring about a challenge?

Final Fantasy Mystic Quest The only game in the series where I actually cared about the story. It goes here for managing to be one of the only RPGs I've ever played where I cared about the story at all. Also, the battles system was extremely generic.

Pokemon Yellow Because Pikachu has a visible walkabout, catching Pokemon is fun, and the battles were never dull for a moment.

Zelda 2: The Adventures of Link The best game in the series; challenge at its greatest.

Super Smash Bros. Series The best multiplayer action, and the fighting genre, have to offer.

Paper Mario Unique presentation? Challenging battles? Minimal randomization? Generic plotline? Go!

My favorite games are mostly old; I haven't owned a console since the N64, and even at that point gaming was becoming quite secondary for me. Interestingly, I paid less and less attention to 'quick entertainment' games as well, and only delved into games that I felt would come close to offering the immersive experience of my gaming youth. I didn't find many.

PERSONAL FAVORITES

Super Mario Bros 3 - Pretty much the closest thing to a perfect platformer. Fun in almost every way imaginable, despite the least interesting music in the series.

Dragon Warrior IV - Probably the most carefully balanced RPG experience I've ever had. There was a background plot that was just enough to make the world breathe without ever overshadowing the actual role-playing (I was still controlling the hero, not the computer). The lack of control of your characters was a pain on occasion, but their learning curve was actually a very interesting mechanic.

Dragon Quest V - Maybe the least balanced (easiest) gameplay in the series, both in terms of battles and exploration. Nevertheless it remains a guilty pleasure due to the amazingly immersive storyline. I waited over a decade for the chance to play this, and if Enix ever officially brings a translation of this and VI to these shores, I will gladly pay the money for the carts even if I do not have the console.

The Legend of Zelda...? - It's hard to pick a favorite here. The original was the most open, but the world lacked any culture. The second was indeed a challenge, but side-scrolling action is not very enjoyable for me. The third had a better cultural world but the feeling of open exploration was significantly curbed. I think that Ocarina and the Mask one might have been my favorites. Both feature interesting worlds AND vast exploration, two things I love in gaming.

Super Smash Bros Melee - Will Brawl be better? Who can say? But this game holds the throne of multiplayer games for me right now.

HONORABLE MENTION

Super Mario Bros 2 - The first world's music never gets old for me. This game is so bizarrely fun, I really can't describe why I like it so much. It's challenging too.

Super Mario 64 - An exploratory platformer? Maybe sort of. There was so much to do and see in this game, truly a standout experience.

Dragon Warrior II - A lot hate it, but it was the first RPG I ever played. Fact still is that it's one of the most blatantly 'evil' games out there. No player ever goes through the Cave to Rhone without fearing for his very life. The universal freedom granted by the finding of the boat is still unparalleled in my gaming experience.

Dragon Quest VI - If I had played this on a console, fully translated and smooth, it might have become my favorite. A wildly imaginative story, LARGE worlds to explore, and battle balance back in place after the easy stroll in V, make this a true delight.

Final Fantasy III (VI) - For all of its flaws, I still cannot deny that this game had a certain magic to it. It was the first truly cinematic RPG I played, and although I tired of this aspect of RPGs fairly quickly, the first still stands out in memory. Plus, the sheer amount of things you could do in battle was huge.

Kirby's Adventure - Like Mario 2, it's hard to explain what exactly makes this game stand out as so much more fun than other platformers. Something about its weirdness, combined with the variety of levels to find things in. Plus, it had the best play control of any of the Kirby games, second only to Mario 3 in my memory.

OVERRATED, BUT STILL OKAY

The Castlevania Series - I can understand why some like them so much, but I never fell in love. The second game was a really unique experience though, where even my patience level was exceeded for cryptic clue-hunting.

The MegaMan Series - Somehow the Zelda series was always able to build on similar concepts from game to game, but this series felt like constant rehashing to me after the third one. It was still fun, but I wouldn't call these great games.

Chrono Trigger - I can't quite understand why this is so revered. Maybe just because the gameplay is different? It's good, don't get me wrong. The story is fun, and the music is great. The gameplay tries lots of different ideas (combos, location-based attacks, etc), but in my mind they don't get pulled off very well.

Super Mario RPG - Again, it's good but not great. Different does not always mean better! The timing system feels so dull to me, and not having an overworld to explore is very disappointing. Here though, I can't claim that they didn't pull off their ideas well like I did for Chrono Trigger. I just don't enjoy the ideas.

I might have forgotten some... I also deleted some on second thought because they were only above average but not favorite or because I only enjoyed them with cheat codes.

After playing Brawl pretty much non-stop for a day, I would have to move it to #2 or #3 on my list. It might even be better than Earthbound, actually, but I won't make such a radical call so soon.

I'm now too busy with college that I do not have enough time to play any console games.. Probably one every week, and I still fail to get that very far with it. So, I'm going to post games that I have officially finished/consumed.

My favorites are:

RPG:
1. Final Fantasy VI - A masterpiece. The Opera scene. Wow.
2. Final Fantasy VII - The infamous death scene. Yes, I was one of its victims.
3. Suikoden II - Really nice atmosphere.
4. Chrono Cross - Has one of the best soundtracks EVER.
5. Tales of Eternia - Cute. And I'm a straight guy.
6. Legend of Dragoon - Please don't kill me.

Horror:
1. Resident Evil 1 and 4 - Coolness.
2. Silent Hill - The reason why I'm now a psychopath.
3. Fatal Frame II - Butterflies!

Action/Adventure:
1. Tomb Raider 3 and Legend - Yes, I'm a fanboy.
2. Metal Gear Solid - I remember being eaten alive by it superb storyline when I was still very young.

Simulation:
1. The Sims - Talk about playing twelve hours straight.
2. Roller Coaster Tycoon - Fifteen hours.

I hate making lists like these, because I always forget something, or come back to it later and see things that really don't constitute as my "favorite."

But anyway...

My Favorites:

The 3-D Battles of World Runner - Okay, this probably isn't really my favorite, but I'm really quite addicted to it, even though it's extremely simplistic.

StarTropics - I remember getting this when I was younger and loving it, so I went back and found it, and I still love it. This is a great game.

Ultima: Quest of the Avatar - Description is practically the same as above, except I don't think I really understood it when I was younger.

Drakkhen II, a.k.a. Dragon View - Really good side-scroller action RPG for the SNES. Everything feels really tight, and it's a lot of fun to control.

Valkyrie Profile - Best battle system ever. Ever. It really surprises me, because I usually don't like most of Tri-Ace's battle systems, but I think they did an amazing one in this game. There's quite a bit of jabber, but at least it's interesting.

Zone of the Enders, I and II - Yes, I am a sucker for flashy action games, but at least this one is pretty damn hard.

Kingdom Hearts...? - Should I put this on here? I really enjoyed the game, but I don't know if I want to call it a favorite or not.

Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty - I think all the "Solids" should be on here, but I think this one gets special mention.

Guilty Gear...well, all of them - My favorite fighting game of all time. It has lots of rules and special moves that are extremely complicated and take a long time to comprehend, much less actually think to pull off during the extremely fast paced gameplay, but it always leaves me wanting more.

Rogue Galaxy...? This is my "currently playing," and I do like it quite a bit, but there are many things that sort of bug me. Even though you go through towns, they still feel like dungeons, sometimes. Of course, that's what Level 5 is known for. I'm surprised I like this one, because I absolutely loathed Dark Cloud, and I wasn't all too impressed by Dark Cloud II.

Eve of Extinction, a.k.a. E.O.E. (or E.O.3. as the box would have you assume. - I have no idea why I liked this game, and I don't even want to put it in the same list. I haven't played it in a while, but I remember reading a completely degrading review in Game Informer, and renting it for a weekend. And I loved it, even the sappy love story about a girl stuck in a lightsaber knock-off. I remember thinking about it years later, and renting it again, and I still loved it. The game isn't anything exciting or new, it's just a beat 'em up with slightly wonky controls.

My favorites, in no particular order:

Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater - All my life, I've thought what a great video game Rambo: First Blood would've been. Turns out I was right, definitely in my top 3.

Silent Service 2 - Submarines: Hell yes.

Metal Combat: Falcon's Revenge - The best Super Scope game ever. Not that it had much competition. It's pretty unusual for a shooting game in that it has multiple endings. The music during the bad end credits inspire a kind of guilt no man should ever face.

Super Smash Brothers Brawl - I'm not sure about putting Brawl up here because it seems like a lot of the characters have been awfully easy to unlock. But the series as a whole is one of, if not the greatest concept ever executed.

Galaga - I'm addicted beyond all hope for recovery. I pray to be abducted by aliens, and returned conjoining myself.

And of course, the obligatory SNES RPG Nostalgia: Earthbound, FF6, Chrono Trigger, Robotrek
