Oh, hell.
I don't know why I even replied. I'm just going to get swamped by assholes with nothing but poorly concieved rebuttals to the smallest inconsistency in my wording.
I never thought I'd say this, but I'm quite ready to let this place go.
To others who've posted similar replies to my last: I'm glad you exist. _________________ SACRE BLEU!

Oh, hell; again.
I had a huge post in reply, but it's no use.
Aren't you adding to the drama by being so hostile?
[Addendum]
I don't post because I either don't get replies, or the replies I get are fluff. For the most part, this place isn't for the experts in anything like writing, so it's really no help for me to contribute, and apparently from the replies I get, no use to anyone here, either. When it comes to replies, and not posts, I get mainly get flack from a couple, or so, hostile members, who don't use their brains enough, and would rather label me than listen. _________________ SACRE BLEU!

Ok, then I think we've found a good middle ground.
"-Fine, here's how I imagine this uniting people; By making them like the site less."
Possibly. Many are already united in their dislike of the prank, but still throwing mud as usual. It's that part I'm sick of seeing.
"Saying "we reasonable people are pissed off" infers that those who disagree with you are not reasonable. "
I disagree. As I said in the original post, and thought I'd cleared up, reasonable people are those who can disagree(with me, or anybody) without all the ruckus.
"-Saying that you could understand it and that it should bring the community closer together seems to me that you are saying it was fine to do this, even if you don't condone it directly."
Having read IM's side of the story, and realized that his reasonings were on a different plane entirely, I will say this. I don't think any of it was worth the trouble, and it was ill-concieved. But even with the new information, I can still say I understand it. It was one coincidence after another, and John, not being a perfect human being, chose to keep CN from the truth.
It's like murder in self defense, where the person who defended their life killed his\her attacker without thinking. I can't condone killing, but I can understand why it was done. *And understanding does not in any way imply that I encourage it.*
Probably a poor analogy, but it's the best I can think of after 12 hours of work, and two or more hours of reading posts.
[add.]
I care about the shittiness because I've been around a while, made friends, and feel, if it's possible, that it should be a good place again. _________________ SACRE BLEU!

For the record, some of us are actually doing something about it.
Also, the reason your analogy is poor is that it assumes that CN was doing something to IM, implying that IM was in the defensive when he clearly wasn't. I understand why he did it, but that doesn't make it reasonable. |

I express my most humble thanks to those who are.

Yeah, just where I'm at. I like John, personally, but I don't see any good reasoning here. _________________ SACRE BLEU!

Any heated topic causes this much bickering, but normally with less fiery hate towards one person. Just look at the Ms/Mr pixel contest threads. I mean, just count how many times you've seen 6 pages of it.
This has gone wholly off the point. Maybe I should say this in the other thread, as this one was specifically created to argue about the prank on CN, but:
The joke was not on CN. It was on the community and the punchline was going to be a site upgrade. Almost nobody has even mentioned this side of it, and I think ignoring CN the whole thing would have been funny and awesome.
And I don't care whether or not the thing was to end on May 1st and not April 1st, or that it dragged on a month: you can play a prank on any day of the year you care to, and the month delay just made it more realistic and would have created an awesome lead up to the day, had IM managed to finish everything. I know exactly what its like to miss the deadline due to massive debugging required.
Where is this argument leading? I advise that everyone takes something-James-would-say or Squall's or Bena's advice and stop with the politics and be more productive. |

Hey everyone! Let's have a nice big cup of "Relaxation and Forgiveness!"
I think that if some of us refrain (for a little while) from talking to people we're mad at, we'll feel better. |
