The game starts out with Austin and Flogen running into their camp after Flogen steals from the local shop keeper. The next morning, they go back to town and get caught and then sent on a small job for the crime. Sounds like the usual RPG begining, eh? Well it is. While the story gets more intresting as time passes, the demo isn't very long and it ends shortly after the first "dungeon".
The map tiles are fairly good, especialy in the fact that they are *not* grid-like! This simple fact makes the graphics sooo much better. Unfortunatly, the map sprites aren't as good and look kinda pixely but they aren't an eye-sore. The battle sprites are fairly well-done also. The backgrounds suite their purpose. Overall, the graphics are average with an extra bonus in the tiles. The music fits the mood for the most part, except the battle music which I thought just didn't work quite right.
The grid system adds sooo much to combat which is already strategic as it is. It had me playing the first 45mins just leveling up in the begining. The grid system works basicly where you can get shard items (usualy by beating battles) and move points (by leveling) and then use them to move around on a character's grid. By moving on a slot of a certain stat it increases by a random amount. As you level, you can get more move points at a time. And, as a bonus, you can run which is very nice. I wish more games had it.
Overall, Dimesions I is a solid game worth the DL time for the gameplay alone.

Overall (Not an average score): Above average graphics, fitting music, great gameplay but the demo is so short you can't really rate the story yet. I can't wait for the next demo, Cube! | 9.0/10.0 |
