Walthros

Walthros is more than just an OHRRPGCE game. Walthros is a novel, a story, that is far too good to be passed up by any OHR veterans and even the newbies. The game has little in the way of impressive graphics or all original music, but the story makes this game the treasure that it truly is. I would go into the story like I usually do, but I will not spoil one bit of it. Not one bit.

Walthros' graphics are not poor, but not very good either. The best graphics the game has are probably some monster sets and the maptiles later in the game. You can see as the game goes along that the artist's graphics are improving significantly. This game would beg for a graphic revamp for a special re-release after its finished, because this is a game that would benefit from such a thing.

The music is part original, part ripped (mostly classical music), but the original battle music doesn't set the right mood. It sounds childish and its boring. Still, an effort to make original music is good. The original stuff just isn't usually placed right.

Since I refuse to spoil a bit of it, let's just say the storyline is one of the best, and leave it at that :)

Gameplay is not too bad. The crystals are nice, and there are plenty of subquests to keep you busy as well as multiple endings. You gain experience rather slowly, but the enemies are designed to keep at your strength level. The game is also long too; 5+ hours at the very least.

To sum up this review, Walthros is a game that looks bash-able, but play it and you'll experience the true gem inside of it. Remember, don't judge a book by its cover.

Scores:
Graphics: Walkabouts aren't very impressive, but battle graphics and maptiles are pretty good. And they improve as the game goes along.
5.0/10.0
Music: The ripped classical stuff is placed well, but the original music isn't. Not to say its not good, just placed incorrectly.
7.0/10.0
Storyline: Yep, a full 10 on this. See why I refuse to spoil it?
10.0/10.0
Gameplay: You level up a bit slowly, but battles go fast and you only need to be on about level 13 to beat the demo. Its quite long, too.
7.0/10.0
Overall (Not an average score): This is one of the more underrated OHR games out there. Only by actually playing this, and not staring at screenshots, can you understand what a treasure this game truly is.
9.5/10.0
