Have you stopped and noticed that no one cares, man? Once someone downloads a game, so what if they want to screw with it? Aren't THEY the only ones who were going to play it?
And besides, only a completely ignorant newbie would have the gall to hack your game, steal its contents, and release it as his own.
But, that's just my opinion. _________________

Dude, even IF some idiot did that, so what!
People would play it and say, "Psh! This guy just ripped all his stuff from SoJ2. He's got no skills!" And that'd be the end of it (much like PuLp's game with Fenrir's graphics)
You're too freaking protective of your work, which is just fine; maybe I should be more the same way, but in all honesty, you're the only one who's absolutely against this. _________________

I have yet to ever mention graphics. Ever. Graphics can already be stolen with F12 or print screen, which someone on CP staff has -already- done.
Oh yeah, I'm being way too protective. Damn me for not wanting people to ruin the Jade experience! Damn me for not wanting people to override the protections on the game which have a purpose! I'm such an asshole! |

However, in the end, I am not worried. There is a protection against this program in the works, so have fun while you still can. |

Nice to hear.
Personally, I only plan to use this program on my very first game which decided to give itself a password during curruption which I have no clue as to what it may be. |

Fyre, if people wanted to ruin the Jade experience, they would find ways other than using that password editor thing. And besides, why is that your problem? If they want to ruin the experience for themselves, what is it to you? It's their problem. I'm also not supporting this program, I merely said it has its good points and its bad points and my feelings are mixed. Quit putting words into people's mouths.

OK Fyre....let's take the password changer out of the picture....
Open up SOJ:PD.....Alt Tab....Open up Playing.TMP..... ....is that the HS right there?? And guess who's site is hosting the HS decompiler....
These programs have the potential to both help and harm...it's up to the user to use them correctly.
The OHR Community is here to help members learn and grow...Wandering Hamster is not password protected because James wants people to use it as an example...
Opening up a file and looking inside can really help people learn. And with enough persistance...there's ways around everything....if they really want to hack a game....they'll find a way.
I'm not saying this program isn't bad....but at the end of the day, I can't see much harm other than the ruining of that gaming experience for the user. _________________

Oh for the love of...
There's 80 different threads and a complete walkthrough/Faq on CP already. That's just a really... poor excuse to use it for THAT purpose.
Unless somebody wants to write up a complete stat listing for every enemy and every item in the game and have that added to the Walkthrough... |

That would be good, though. The first time I played FFH I spent seven something hours trying to figure out what to do before I found out that I had to go to the dwarf mines. |

Once again the point is missed. Yes, you can pull some data files from the Playing temp file. However, this program removes any effort for the person to hack it. All they have to do is run this program, and they have access to everything in the game in clear form. They can view all enemy stats. They can view all attacks. They can view and edit all secrets that I would want to release later, or leave for other players to discover legitmately. They can turn the Debug keys back on and cheat that way. The point is, it should be up to the AUTHOR, not this COMMUNITY, to grant access to his or her game. Wandering Hamster is unpassworded? That's great. There's something people can learn of off. That was James' decision, not yours. There is no need for you to open up Jade to learn from that, except to steal data. If people would learn plotscripting, and not just sponge off scripts, it would be a better place. Nothing can be too hard to imitate. I've seen bunches of games with day/night scripts after the first Jade demo was released, and the code wasn't included. In short, this program is unethical and has no good purpose to it, whereas the plotscript decompiler does. However, this has now tainted the decompiler as well. |

Fyre, you're overreacting and worrying too much about this. Just chill out. I understand that you want to protect your game (I have a password on Magisteral, too) but you're whining about how everyone might, MIGHT steal your stuff. Not everyone is like that, including most of the people in this community. _________________

I have yet to mention that people will steal anything from me, except for the Jade examples. I have only used Jade as an example. I am of course, not whining either. I'll wait for you to reply with something constructive, and then I might care.

Fyre, you are whining. I try to remain neutral on issues as sensitive as this, and while I do agree with you that a program that allows one to bypass password protection is bad in some ways, you are getting a little overly pissed off about it. So what if someone peeks at your secret areas? It's their problem that they aren't patient enough to actually try and find them on their own. I can't really see how it's a problem if someone cheats at your game. As long as you aren't competing with them in some way, it's their decision if they want to cheat.
Now, I can see that it would be a problem if someone decided to go and post every secret in a game without the creator's permission. But I don't think anyone would be misguided enough to do such a thing. And if they did, they would be banned and banished faster than a ferret latching onto my finger.
So cool down, man. You act like this every time anything like this comes up, and it doesn't make you look better in the eyes of the community. _________________ UP DOWN UP DOWN LEFT LEFT RIGHT RIGHT A B START |
