I was thinking of starting a entry fee based OHR contest. Entry fees would be $5 (USD) per GROUP that enters, payed by paypal. You would win money back for placing 1st, 2nd, or 3rd. 75% of the profits would go towards the contest winners (if it's a group, the group chooses how to divide the winnings), 25% would go towards the judges (which would be a group of 3 different people). Not sure if I'd do a theme for the contest or not, other than "BEST OHR GAME, PERIOD".

Wondering, if I were to start this, would anyone participate? I'd throw a website up, and have some hearings for the judges. I'd be looking for two judges other than myself (and also, judges and/or the groups they are apart of are not elibible to enter the contest).

>_>

Why do the judges get any of it?

Oh, and good to see you back, Chenz.

Good to be back Moogle. Raspberry!

I figured it'd be a good way to help out people who arn't m4d l33t with the OHR, who do rate games like crazy. Of course, it's just a thought. I could just do the typical "entire community votes" thing too.

April fools was a couple weeks ago, and IM already did something similar to this.

On the other hand, assuming it's real, I'd be more than happy to judge.

MC: Don't be a jerk just because your April Fools joke sucked Mad

And I think an entry fee-based contest would leave out a lot of the CP population.

I was talking about IM's Pay-Per-Upload system. I know my "joke" sucked. I'm not being a jerk because of that, I'm being a jerk because this is a bad idea. Most contests are free to enter, OHR or otherwise.

Actually, most GOOD contests have an entry fee to back up the prize. I don't think the idea's gonna work very well in the OHR, though. Not enough people with money, not enough people who'll finish games, too many people who'll demand refunds.

This is going to be a pain in the butt to adminstrate, right?

If you really want to do it, and have teams, I would have the teams submit their pay distribution to you as part of their entry. or change it to a per-person entry free.

Also, there should be a thing that "all entry fees are non-refundable".

Sounds like an easy way to jack money.

Fyre's got the right idea.

Yeah, it'd be a whore to administrate, but with some planning ahead, I believe it's possible.

and no, I'm not looking to jack money. A few bucks is hardly worth ripping off people for (considering my financial situation -- note I've also thought about running some contests where all of the prizes come out of my pocket. How fair is THAT!?). I'm not a thief, and even if I were, what would I need a few bucks for? Raspberry!

Requiring the cash at the time of submission would also ensure a certain level of seriousness in the entrant's work. I like this idea, but then again it depends wholly on the contest.
