In my game, I've got an attack that simply won't run. If you'd like to help, I'm providing the zip file here. The problem is attack 21.
The actual problem) When you try to select it from the spells list, the attack is in gray letters even though there's plenty of MagicPoints to spend on it.
The attack itself is a 'scan' attack that's in three segments.
1)shows pretty scan animation on selected enemy and stores target
2)Shows remaining health on stored target
3)Critical hit, lowers enemy's defense.
Thanks. |

What version of the nightly are you using? I remember this problem occured in the Eight Granasties several times on several different versions, so it's not your attack at fault, something is bugged about the nightly you're using. _________________ http://www.castleparadox.com/gamelist-display.php?game=750 Bloodlust Demo 1.00

Nightly? I'm just using Hasta-La-Qb+. Should I be using the Nightlies instead? |

Not unless you're bug reporting or REALLY want to try out the new features. |

Please provide a .sav file with a character who has the scan attack and is located in a place where it is easy to fight and test this. |

It only takes a few seconds to get the ally and fight. But if you really want to save time: button.download
I saved under the F2 debug key.
[edit] The problem is with Aleck's (Blond and skinny) Scan attack.
[EDIT] Hmm...I just tested the game on my home computer (XP) and it works just fine. I guess the problem only persists on 98. |

!!? Interesting. A Windows 98-specific bug would be most unusual.
Are you using game.exe or game-qb.exe on the Windows 98 computer?
Does it make a difference if you put the scan attack in a different slot in Aleck's magic list? What happens if you put a different spell in the slot where scan currently is? |

I tried swapping the attack's slot from first to second, but it would never run.
The problem was that my version of game.exe was from Serendipity+.
I realized that I should probably be using the latest version, and it works fine now. Thanks. |

Aha! that must have been old bug 143
I'm glad to see that your problem is resolved.
By the way, I like the treehouse artwork, and the way the hero turns and climbs the ladder is cool. |

Actually, this is exactly why people should use the latest stable release. Twinhamster stated his Win98 computer was still using Serendipity+ and updating to Hasta-la-QB+ fixed the issue.
Running the nightly build is great for the devs, as potential bugfixes are confirmed and any newly introduced bugs can be caught prior to a full release. However, nightly builds introduce work in progress code that may or may not be stable. Changes to the .RPG internal format could be especially damaging if you were using the nightly to produce your game and the code didn't work as perfectly as expected. Bug 138 comes to mind, although, the fact that it was also present in Serendipity makes it even more scary, but imagine running the latest nightly and an oversight on the dev's part corrupts a few internal lumps irreversibly.
If using the nightlies, I suggest you pay attention to what changes each build introduces, and make sure you back up prior to use. _________________

Thanks. I actually scanned its outline from a sketch that I did.
Thanks for the advice, OOIA and IM. I'll be sure to keep them in mind. |

If only I thought of that earlier. I guess I better start taking proper precautions now. _________________ http://www.castleparadox.com/gamelist-display.php?game=750 Bloodlust Demo 1.00

I have. The basic premise of the bug is music doesn't play on maps as if the maps were set to have no music, but music will load from other situations (ie. textboxes). _________________ http://www.castleparadox.com/gamelist-display.php?game=750 Bloodlust Demo 1.00
