So I've noticed that the coolest games are almost always those made by A) many people or B) one person with no life.
One person with no life and enough time (which people with no life usually have) can obviously make a pretty sweet game, because they work really hard on it, and people with no lives tend to have too many skills for their own good.
I, however, have a life, and not all that much time, so I was wondering if there were people out there that weren't working on much and looking for a game to help with.
See, at the risk of sounding overly proud (when you have few skills you tend to emphasize the ones you've got), I'm pretty much awesome at coming up with storylines. Right now I've come up with a pretty unique one, which I'll share later, when and if people express interest in hearing it. I'm also pretty good with music, and I'm a fairly good artist, but stink at sprite art. I'm getting better, but it's still pretty bad. Also, I've pretty much never used plotscripting at all... There's also probably a lot of people who are faster and more efficient at designing games with the engine in general as well, but I'm at least comfortable with how it works.
Well anyhow, I just wanted to make a game/help work on one... just a fantasy setting, some familiar things (mythril, dragons, etc.) but a lot of unique things too, I wanted to make it a "serious" game too.
Anyway...
Anyone wanna help, or at least hear my story? |

Listen up, and listen well.
Everybody in this community has a life that they are not able to commit 100% to making games.
If you don't have the time, then work on it at little bits at a time.
Maybe a new sprite or two each week.
As of now, you have absolutely nobody interested in working under you.
Tell your story first, then ask for help. |

Here is the somewhat-less-harsh version of TH's rant:

or C) one person with a life who takes a long time to finish his game

How many times have I heard this? Everyone has a story.

Here you've got potential. Most people could use a good musician.

Yeah, so... you might want to post your story if it's that incredible; otherwise, you might want to volunteer to work on someone else's game, since you'll probably have a tougher time getting people to spontaneously volunteer to work on yours, no questions asked. _________________

I work on my game at a snail's pace since I can't pump out maptiles and other graphics like a machine. Today I made a couple of walkabout frames of an NPC and I am still not finished with said NPC, and I drew a maptile and did a hack job of making corner tiles out of it.
But it looks more and more like a complete game, and that makes me a happy panda. |

If the idea is solid, then it's best to wait until the musician can play whatever part of the game before writing music to it. That is, unless, you are extremely good at describing what you want, and can sometimes point to examples of what you're looking for. And then of course, you'd have to *make* that part of the game the way you decribed, in order for the music to fit, which also takes some competence. Moogle's right in suggesting that you work on other people's stuff for a bit, and build strong relationships with who you work with best.
Competent people usually have to know they can trust you to finish the job before they feel comfortable working with you. (so show them you have it together) _________________ SACRE BLEU!

seriously try this pal. Help people around and secretly work on a bad draft of your game trying to do all you can do right, and filling the gaps with temporary stuff. When that is done, show someone, maybe someone will volunteer stuff like "hey, looks good, I might help you adding original gfx to that". Why do I know it works? 'Cause that's how it works. It is a community, not classified ads |

Errr... Maybe I should have rephrased that... I said I was really good at coming up with stories; that is, I have about two billion ideas right now, but that doesn't mean they're incredible... I'll post my story when I have more time.
Anyway, at least I know I'm not the only one that takes forever to get things done...
But seriously, you don't have to be so harsh, I was just asking! Also... Quote: |

It seems that you think that you believe that your stories are incredible from your first post. Since you are "awesome at coming up with storylines," that obviously means that they are good ones. Anyone can come up with a bunch of bad storylines (A dude walks in a bar, and the evil king says, "DUEL!," and the evil death lord named Xolnar tries to blow up the earth and you have to kill him with your party of cliche warriors. See it's that easy.) but that definitely doesn't mean that you're awesome at coming up with storylines.
I don't think this is a harsh reaction at all. The problem is, half a million people have come in the past with their "good storyline/plots" requesting for people to blindly follow them into the sun to be burnt to a crisp. If you really want help with your game, you're going to have to show us something.
Do you want your game to be completed? It shouldn't matter if it takes 1 day or 50 years; if your desire to create this game is strong, then there should be nothing to bar you from learning the craft. _________________ Calehay |

Xolnar: "Hero... I am your... ... Father's sister's uncle's cousin's brother's uncle's roomate."
Hero: "What does that make us?"
Xolnar: "Absolutely nothing! Which is what YOU WILL BECOME!" |

And a spaceballs rpg? with lord black helmet? thats too thin of a theme to make a fun rpg... Xolnar however... *contest idea is being borned* |

Xolnar will probably end up being part of a game that makes fun of Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest, just like Spaceballs made fun of Star Wars and Star Trek. |

with kefka's laughter and the dragon's wings... "Xolnar the terrible" *growl* *impossible laughter*
like an rpg where you don't fight a single time? that would be the complete parody of FF and dragon quest because it would be the complete opposite ...
like, no fighting, yet you must level up somehow, and levels must be of some use... like u solve riddles and you gain xp and it unlocks doors... That'd be funny to see but ya, if it was truly a satyr of ff and dragon warrior, they would have to be numerous battles... random ones... |

You obviously don't understand what a parody is, do you? Removing fights completely wouldn't parody Final Fantasy. Increasing the encounter rate for a single room then having a joke about what just happened is parodying encounter rates.
The idea is to *break* and *distort* to be, not do the opposite. Seriously, if you did just the opposite of Final Fantasy, you would have another one of those freaking crappy "games" that are not funny, are hideously ugly, and take up a lot of space on Castleparadox. |
