Hi, I'm a total newbie to this platform.

Is it possible to use the artwork -say, maptiles and hero graphics- of other already created games? Could I use, for example, maptiles and heroes from Vikings of Widgard or Final Fantasy H in my own games?

Cheers!

Yes. It's a good idea to ask the creator if you can use his or her stuff first, though. The community's grown more lax about ripping lately, but not from other users. In the case of the two games you mention, though, Fenrir has been very willing to let users borrow his graphics in the past, so he probably has no issue with it. I'd still ask out of courtesy.

Anyway, the best way I have found to extract graphics from OHR games is this program:

The program is very self-explanatory, but if you need help with it, just ask.

Vikings is public domain, so asking is unnecessary but a nice courtesy anyway. Fenrir usually lets people borrow FFH graphics, too (though a lot of those are ripped or modified to begin with).

Thks for the swift responses. The extraction programme looks good, thanks for that.

I'll run it tomorrow on a Windows machine (Wine couldn't run it under linux).

You actually shouldn't need to use wine to run the OHR. Check out the 'Linux Notes' on the official OHR site.
