At the beginning of a game set the hero speed to 10 through plotscripting. I don't know how effective this idea is, but it would sure be cool if it worked with little problems. I tried it on all of my game-wannabes and it just makes everything so much better. Who wants to be slow? I would like to know if this would work without too much trouble, because I love it that way. So much faster.
I'm not sure if this works because I never seen it an any other game except Ecopia. |

Well, I don't know all the events that would reset your heros speeds to 4, but you'll have to account for all of them. One of them will be saving and loading a game(I'm pretty sure)..
Other than that, I see no problem with it... _________________ "It is so great it is insanely great." |

What a coincidence - I was just thinking about doing this today - in my future project. Making the walking speed 5 or something of the like - perhaps 10. Mostly because I liked my character's speed on Lufia II, made things soo much easier for me. Oh well, that's just my two cents...or whatever the saying was. Heh. Back to work on my secret projeckt (Not yours, Sew.) |

There's a plotscripting command in my downloadable library that allows the user to make the hero walk or run by holding down whatever key they choose.
... I dunno, thought I should bring it up, heheh. |

I don't like the idea of keeping the hero's speed at 10. First off, it'll make people able to beat your game in probably half the normal time, and on top of that, it's unrealistic. Who's gonna run around through their whole journey?
Hrmm...now that I've said that, I think the "realistic" speed would be 2. That's more of a walking speed, but it'd be far too annoying to have that in a game. I dunno! _________________

A speed of 2 is . . . really . . . slow . . .
But a speed of 10 iswaytoofast.
Meanwhile, 4 is still too slow for me, and 5 . . . 5 just seems like 4, to tell the truth.
A speed like 8 would be nice . . .
Damn the 20-pixel even-multiplier speed rule! _________________ UP DOWN UP DOWN LEFT LEFT RIGHT RIGHT A B START |

So? I really need to write a pixel based-any-speed script - I like the style of walking in games like secret of mana.. _________________ "It is so great it is insanely great." |

I'd be interested in seeing that one. Free movement rules! ... I still think a faster walking speed is a good idea - even if it IS 10. Perhaps just make the faster walking speed in towns and dungeons? Or just on the world map? Hmm...I think I'm going to stick another unoriginal idea in my game - SPRINT SHOES! Well... I like the concept... Even if it has been used before... Umm...yea. _________________ * SDHawk has joined #Minnek

I've been meaning to make a free-movement system for a while now. It really shouldn't be that hard - the big problems will be the animations and checking the pass block - but I just never seem to get around to it. _________________ UP DOWN UP DOWN LEFT LEFT RIGHT RIGHT A B START |

You'd have to ask either Retrogamer of Chaos Nyte (whenever he gets back) about that.
If you script it carefully, you can have a free movement system that runs smoothly, but if you're not careful and do something like "Baby Bob the Hamster" style, then it'll run sssssslllllloooooowwwwww! _________________
