Gilbert discusses fan games-
Gilbert, creator of "I MADE DIS", a game staring Batman, Superman, and Elvis, brought up the interesting topic of fan games, and what people would like to see in them. This caused a flurry of comments, mostly by people opting to see no more fan games on DBZ or Sailor Moon. Sadly, I know of two that are in creation right now. When will people learn that no one is interested in a game with a ripped plot, characters, music, graphics, well, basically everything? I guess everyone thinks there going to make the next EvilDead.
Insight Games, without Ben?-
Insight Games, a company from a year or so ago, has been revived by several members, including Smokedog, Chenzi, Mew, Sephy, and Toxic Shroom. Notably missing is FyreWulff, and the once president of the company, Ben-Ohki. As older OHRers will remember, Ben went into a psychotic depression, posting on the boards that he was going to kill himself and that nobody loved him. Though the community was sympathetic at first, it soon became clear that Ben was only acting this way to get a girlfriend. After the womanizer broke several hearts by being an ass, he went into a insane rage and destroyed the company, leaving most of the members confused and out of luck. Wondering where Ben is today? Last I saw him he was claiming that the OHR Community was stalking him and plotting with the "Man" to make him miserable. I think the guy should get some mental help, but in the meantime, lets all wish Insight Games the best of luck. I'd link you to their Webpage, but Smokedog hasn’t made it yet.
Plotscripting Contest-
Seems like there's a contest of some sort or another almost every week now. Ah well, suppose people want to make the most of their time before their dragged back off to school. Anyway, the contest, sponsored by Moogle1 has had mixed interest. The first contest challenge was to simulate the avoid function in OHR. This has met with people dismissing the contest as frivolous, though Moogle assures us that the challenges will get harder. More news on this as it develops.
Sim-RPG, a reality?-
Now this is interesting news. Moogle1, famous all ready for his innovative games, and working on the much anticipated Way of the Wizard action RPG, is set to change how people see OHR games once again. In Sim-RPG, you take the role of famous (or not so famous), OHRer, and lead them in a quest to become a legendary game creator. Hire a team from the community, raise your stats, and choose between a huge number of OHRers to play as, or hire. This game looks like it's really going to be something special. Don’t hold your breath though, Moogle’s just started.
Sim-RPG, a reality?-
Browsing through the Game List yesterday, I began to notice a disturbing trend. There seems to be a large number of newbies who have taken names for games, and left it at that. No descriptions, no pictures, not even a release date. Just the name. This isn't so bad if you're just holding a name for later use, and you've got a description, but there's one person, whose so foolish, so inane, so newbieish, that he's taken FOURTEEN NAMES. Only one them has a game under it. Now, I'll be honest, this isn't probably one person. With the name "Unknown", it could be anyone right? Wrong. I know that at least of the people is Hansi, but here, let me list all the games:
Body of Secrets, Celestial Descent, Civilisation, Civilization, Jt, Nomad(Really Fun), Mine!, Rise of the Dragon Slayers, The Rise of the Dragon Slayers, Secrets, Shadow of Time, Thin Edge, Voodoo on the run!, Year of the Bone, and Zedrik.
By the way, "Nomad(Really Fun)" is the actual name of the game. The creator felt so insecure that not only could he not put anything about the game, but he had to tell it was fun, because of course we wouldn’t know fun if it slapped us in the face.
Of all of these, only Thin Edge has a demo. I've played it and done a mini-review of this...thing. I was under the impression that the Game List was to used for posting about new games, not stealing names for games you'll never make. If I was TM, I'd watch this, and take off any games that didn't have a description. Unknown’s, you're all idiots.
