The OHR Community, a solar system?

Okay, this is going to sound weird, but I've always pictured the OHR Community as a kind of solar system. Yeah yeah, corny I know, but bear with me. Picture this as a sort of OHR based horoscope. You know, with the Leos, Virgos, etc. Only this time, I compare you to a planet.

James is in the middle, the sun if you will. We all circle around him, and if he wasn't here we wouldn't be. Of course, we can offer him suggestions for OHR, and he does talk, but for the most part, he's just there. Most people take his genius for granted, though if he'd leave we'd all be in for a nasty surprise. He's a normal sun too, not an old red giant, since OHR is nowhere near its end, or even its potential.

Next are the inner planet members, people who post often on the boards, hang out in IRC all day, keep the community going, etc. Now I'm not saying people in the inner circle of planets are better, far from it. You all know about newbies who show up, post a ton on the board, get flamed and then disappear. But they're only a part if the inner planet circle. So let's seperate the inner planets some more.

Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, and the Asteroid Belt.

  Small Timers (Mercury)-
You see them in IRC, talking about life and video games. They're not serious about OHR, but they do have a game out, and it's not too bad. They're always working away at some half-hearted project or another, and they mean well. Mind their potty humor, otherwise they're good hearted folk.

  The Jaded Veterans (Venus)-
Maybe at one time they were into the community, maybe not at all. Whatever they did, it was in the past, and now they think people will respect them for their past achievements. These creatures hang under their acid clouds in the IRC channel. Mind the evil Ops, stupid newbies, and of course me. =p Anyway, though the Jaded Veteran is hard to find, once you do, be careful. They can be worse then the newbie, since they've actually got power, of a sort. They've got a lot to prove, to themselves and to the community, but they're either too lazy or depressed to do anything about it. However, they do have a good side, and can be a fantastic advisor, just don't expect them to take an active interest in your work, they'll let you down every time.

  Hardworkers (Earth)-
These are the creators of the community as it is today, and still active. They run newsites, keep us up to date on their games, and generally shore up the community. There really aren't as many of us as you'd think. Kind of like how a planet like Earth is so hard to find. We keep the community glued together, whether others like it or not.

  Wannabes (Mars)-
Hangs out on the Help Me boards, bugs people on the regular board, talks constantly about their games, usually with little or no visual proof to back it up. They're always talking and there are some people in the community who spend their whole "lifetimes" in OHR at this stage. You can usually identify them by their poor typing skills, and how they shrug them off like they're not problems.

  Newbies (Astroid Belt)-
They prowl around the inner circle, occasionally shooting in for a furious typing session on the Main Board. They form companies named after themselves, occasionally with Real Life friends in them. Often carry around a bad web site in an attempt to be cool. They have a shitty game that's been in the pre-planning stages forever, and always have inflated egos about themselves and their work. Often have twisted views of the community in general, and instead of realizing they can only control themselves, flame others for their ways, hoping to embarrass them into submission. Of course this almost always ends up hurting them. Too bad they don't realize it.

Onto the outer ring of planets, which moves more into how OHR Community Members group and organize themselves. Though sometimes for protection, sometimes for the need to belong, mostly to have a place to call your own. Keep in mind, the closer they are to the sun, the more visible they are. Most Plutos are completely invisible to the casual OHR Community Member.

Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto.

  The Big Companies (Jupiter)-
Hovering like sentinals over the community, the big companies usually are full of of Venuses and Earths. They are less concerned with working on one big game as they are at chasing their own smaller projects. Easy going, and slow, they are powerful, but take far to long to do anything that would be a threat to anyone but themselves. Enter one at your own risk, since it's really just a place for Venuses to retire or Earths to call home.

  The Legends (Saturn)-
You know who I'm talking about. They don't take any active part in the community anymore, but you sure have played their games. Most are either one game wonders or deep into their next project. They may show up at the boards and IRC occasionally, but their hearts are with the games, and not the community. God Bless'em. They're what make the community great.

  Small Time Companies (Uranus)-
Most people have been in one of them, and if you're in one now, get yourself OUT. Usually composed of one person with a vision to create a game, and members are people helping out on it. It always looks good in theory, but the companies are rift with inner-poltics. They usually depend on the artist of the group to do most (all) of the real work. This person will fall through on whatever they promised, since who wants to be the person with no power but all the work? These artists usually become Saturns after they've learned their lessons. Pointless and full of bitching, a Small Time Company isn't a place you want to be.

  RL Friends (Neptune)-
Sometimes these groups move to different places, but most of the time it happens to be a person who found OHR and tells his/her a friend about it. No one else in RL is interested in it, but usually their other friend will stick with it. These people usually come out with a game or two, nothing great. Sometimes they get bored and leave, but most of the time they hang around and continue to produce another couple of lousy games. Not very "into" the community, they see it as a source of entertainment.

  Polite Stumblers (Pluto)-
These are the people that happen to find OHR, are vaguely interested, and mess with it. They don't enter the community, having a vague idea that they shouldn't since they're new. Plutos will plug away at their games as hobby when they're bored, and maybe release a demo after a while. After the demo is rated and insulted, they become depressed and disappear entirely, back into Real Life.

Of course, there are a few others, namely Comets and Moons. They are around certainly, but you don't need to take them seriously.

  Inner Planets-
  N3bi3 a$$h0l3 (Comet)-
Like a newbie, only without the staying power. They come shooting through OHR, picking up a smattering of phrases and a vague use of the engine, then they head onto the boards, spamming with their crap. At the first sign of dislike they instantly attack, hitting (flaming) whoever did it. After they're done, they disappear, usually never to be heard of again. Basically, small time losers.

  Hangers on (Moon)-
Usually found in small companies, these are friends of the leader of the company. They don't actually do anything, and usually are given titles like "Idea Guy" or, "Promotion Department". Most have a basic understanding of the OHR as a RPG making system, but they're really just there to fill space.

  Huh? (UFOs)-
These people are in the OHR Community certainly, but they don't seem...to do anything. But you can clearly see that their talented people. This category is for all the members who don't fit in the Venus one, and while you shouldn't be proud to be a UFO, since that means you're still a slacker, at least you're not a hate filled ball of acidic gas.

Of course, you've got to remember that OHR Members are constantly shifting position as inspiration, school, and a half dozen other things slam into them on a daily basis. Indeed, few OHRer's can be categorized as in one thing only. Want to see what you are? Just select any that fit. Two from the inner planets if you need too, and one from the outer. I've tried this system on some people in the community, and for the most part it works. Of course, their people like Jsang who don't manage to fit anywhere, so he ends up as a UFO, which I created in attempt to categorize him at the last second. Remember, this is for fun only. And besides, isn't better to go, "You sir, are a comet, and nothing more!" and watch the comment totally pass over his head them call him a damn newbie and watch him call you a "FUkkuR!!!1"
